It’s Friday…Sleep Well

Christmastime is here. Even at this festive time of the year, we would like to know that God is watching over us, don’t we? The Good News is, He is with us – Immanuel. He isn’t some local deity limited in power. He isn’t some cosmic force that may pay attention to us if we scream loudly enough. No, He is “the Maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:2). It is “He who watches over Israel” (Psalm 121:4). He is the Almightiest of almighties, the wisest of the wise, the most loving of lovers. Those of us who approach Him – through obedient faith, through believing prayer, through passionate worship – are approaching the most benevolent, powerful Being in the universe.

We forget that. We know He’s up there, but we forget that He’s right here, right now, with us. We know He can help us, but we sometimes struggle that He will help us. We know that He counts every hair on our head, but we’re afraid He might have moved onto other heads. After all there are so many. It’s a big world with lots of problems. Maybe He’s too busy for ours.

But an infinite Deity never gets over extended. A Being with unlimited resources can’t get overcommitted. He doesn’t stress about fitting it all in because He’s beyond time. He doesn’t wonder how our lives will play out, because He knows every possibility, including the one that will actually happen. He laments our lack of confidence in Him, but He never loses His love for us, because His love is boundless and always overflowing. And it flows to us, even while we sleep.

“He will not let your foot slip – He who watches over you will not slumber.”  (Psalm 121:3)

The One that all civilizations in all ages past and present long for has a single eye on you and me – right now, while we work, while we play, while we stress and strain, while we try to resolve painful conflict, and while we sleep. He is our shade at our right hand, promising to keep us from all harm, and He is our constant, unseen companion, whether we’re coming or going (Psalm 121:5-8). Immanuel – God with us. We can count on Him and His promise forever. So, let’s Sleep Well.

Have a rest-filled weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who know how to touch Him, sense Him, hear Him because they have discovered that when they draw near to Him, He draws near to them. It doesn’t get better than that.

All For Jesus – Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else.

“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see, to Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:15b-16)
