It’s Friday…You’ll Be Amazed

There are three significant events that every child of God should recognize and celebrate: The Birth of Christ, the Resurrection of Christ, and the Day of Pentecost – when the church received the Holy Spirit of God. This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday.

Throughout the nation of Israel’s history, God had sent His Spirit selectively. He inspired the artisans of the Ark of the Covenant to craft the place of His Presence. He had come upon Moses and kings, as well as occasional prophets. But for God to pour out His Spirit on a nation? His presence touching an entire population? That was unheard of?

“I will no longer hide My face from them, for I will pour out My Spirit on the house of Israel.”  (Ezekiel 39:29)

God makes it clear that this was His plan all along – not to measure His Spirit sparingly upon those He needed for the moment, but on everyone He calls His own. What was once a privilege of those specially anointed with sacred oil would now be given to all. Every man, woman, and child would be treated as God’s royalty and His special servant. The house of Israel would indeed be blessed.

God’s Word through the prophet Joel carried His intentions even further: He would pour our His Spirit on all flesh (Joel 2:28), a phenomenon Peter identified on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-21). The domain of a nation of priests would become a global domain, available to everyone who believes. The Holy Spirit, so mysterious and hidden for all of human history, would manifest Himself on any human being who asked. The face of The Almighty would never be hidden again.

We are privileged to live in the day of which the prophets spoke. The problem is that we don’t invite God’s Presence as openly and persistently as we could, and we lose sight of the gift. Oblivious to much of what He does, we lose the ability to recognize Him. Then the Spirit becomes mysterious and hidden once again, a subject of theological debate and a casualty of hearts turned cold.

This Sunday is Pentecost. Let’s make this our most persistent prayer request: “Holy Spirit, show Yourself in my life. Let me breathe Your breath, see with Your eyes, feel Your feelings, think Your thoughts, speak Your words, and hear Your voice.” You’ll Be Amazed at how lavishly He pours Himself out on you.

Have a most-fulfilling weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who have felt His breath, experienced His power, and seek it daily.

All For Jesus – Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else.

“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see, to Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:15b-16)
