It’s Friday…It’s Going To Be Okay

World peace. Everyone, from presidents to protestors to front-line soldiers to Miss America, crave it. We all want to lie down at night knowing that people won’t be killed tomorrow. We all want national security, not to mention families that get along. We all want every bomb and all the arguments to go away. Mostly we just want to relax and know It’s Going To Be Okay.

It is. God has promised. We may go through trials and tribulations for a time, and sometimes it will get violent, but the end of the story is peace. When the Prince of Peace came into our world for the first time, He said He came not to bring peace but a sword (Matthew 10:34-36). After all, when a cancer is spreading throughout the world, we don’t want the surgeon to keep the peace; we appreciate the scalpel. But when the Prince of Peace comes again, the warfare will end. He will settle everything. The Lamb of God will rule with a rod of iron (Revelation 19:15), and all the nations will be at peace.

“He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.”  (Zechariah 9:10)

That’s God’s answer to the greatest political problem of all time. War, education, diplomacy, cooperation, health care, mediation, or any other human effort will not end our conflicts. True peace will come only when every heart is either ruled by Christ or cast out of His Kingdom. And that won’t happen until He comes again to judge and to save.

That may not be an easy answer to swallow in these days of turmoil, but it’s true. Zechariah said so, and so did Jesus. We can pray for peace among the nations and for God to work out His plan by changing contentious hearts, and He will honor such prayers. In fact, He commands us to pray for peace (1 Timothy 2:1-2), especially the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). Not to do so would be disobedient. But if we place our hopes in our ability to create a conflict-free society, we’re mistaken. Only Jesus can do that, and He will. His peace will last forever, and ever, and ever. Guaranteed.

Have another peace-filled weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who live with confidence in God’s promise because He has kept His Word to them every time.

All For Jesus – Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else.

“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see, to Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:15b-16)
