Many years ago, a very new kind of humanity was born into a very old kind of stable. That didn’t look like the beginning of victory, and neither did the shameful death some three decades later. But from that birth, death, and resurrection will come an entirely new order of creation: A new spiritual race, a new heaven, and a new earth. The old era will pass away, and the euphoria of victory will cause an entire planet full of redeemed people to erupt in wild celebration. The national pride of acknowledging our Olympic champions will pale in comparison to the ultimate ecstasy of this eternal triumph. Elation will be a new everyday mood.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.” (Revelation 21:1)
For many followers of Jesus, the thrill of victory will be a shock. Many of us have sung the anthems of our allegiance in ritual boredom, scarcely realizing the weight of the lyrics they contain. We’ve held the national flag close to our side, giving it a half-hearted, almost apologetic wave whenever a measure of success is evident. When the new heaven and earth are established in eternal supremacy, many of us will wonder what all the shouting is about.
Don’t be one of those half-hearted supporters. Begin now in celebrating the victory that is coming. Wave the colors boldly and sing the anthems to our God at the top of your lungs. This will be The Greatest Triumph Ever – and the last.
Have a triumphant weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who rejoice in victory now because they know they will be in the crowd who will share in the victory of Christ for all eternity.
