It’s Friday…No Such Thing As Futility

Life is hard. Some people may look like they are cruising through this world, but they aren’t, at least not for long. We are fallen creatures of a fallen race, and from the day that Adam and Eve began tilling the soil, we’ve been struggling with large rocks and putting in long hours. And those of us who thought salvation would put all our trials behind us soon realized that it only gave us a whole different set of them. Not only are we plowing hard ground, but we’re also fighting a brutal war. This era before the great restoration from God can be intense.

But you already knew that. You’ve experienced it long enough to know that life is not a playground. That information come under the category of experience, not revelation. What does need to be revealed to us, however, is the promise that it won’t always be this way. God gives us a promise both for this age and the age to come. We do not labor for nothing. There is No Such Thing As Futility in the Kingdom of God.

Maybe we didn’t realize that – or we only knew it on an intellectual level. Most of us have an undying fear behind all of our activity, silent questions that sound something like this: “What if I’m just spinning my wheels? What if I’m investing all this time and energy for nothing? What if my work is not eternally significant?” Our minds know better than to reason that way; our emotions don’t.

“’Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded,’ declares The LORD.”  (Jeremiah 31:16)

That’s why it’s important to know the heart of our Heavenly Father. The promises that His master plan provides can satisfy us logically and keep us motivated. But the promise that our Father is holding our hand and clearing our path, and working something beautiful through our faith and obedience – whether we see it or not – are energizing. A boss is concerned with efficiency and would cut us from his plan if we aren’t productive. But our Heavenly Father? Never. His efficiency wastes no one’s faithful obedience. As children of God, our work will be rewarded. So, let’s be of good cheer.

Have a rewarding weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who intimately know and respond to the heartbeat of God in every area of life. There’s more joy that way.

All For Jesus – Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else.

“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see, to Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:15b-16)
