It’s Friday…Remember His Irrefutable Answer

We are living in days which demand for the people of God to be courageous, to be champions who live and speak His Truth in love. Unfortunately, the warriors The Lord is looking for, whom He has resourced and equipped us to be, have become wimps, cowards, and, at best, reluctant. But I guess we have good company though. Jonah is often referred to as “the reluctant prophet,” but a cursory look at the other prophets in the Old Testament will reveal a reluctance in almost all of them. They well knew that speaking for God could get someone in an awful lot of trouble. He’s not a status-quo God, after all. He usually works in this world in some pretty dramatic and unsettling ways.

Moses was the greatest Old Testament prophet through whom all the Law was given. He was the first man through whom God spoke specifically and thoroughly to a chosen nation. And, it seems, he was the first to wish he could run away from the prophetic call.

Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharoah and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”  (Exodus 3:11)

Even in the light of Moses’ reluctance, God was wise to choose Him. When we read the stories of prophets closely, we see that they not only delivered prophetic messages, but they also lived prophetic lives. They give us a picture of God’s people, or sometimes of God Himself. And the reluctance of Moses to be a part of the deliverance, that sense that he had nothing to offer God and no power to which to confront Pharoah, is an accurate picture of a follower of Jesus today. We, too, are reluctant to get into the battle – whether it be spiritual, political, or cultural – to proclaim deliverance to captives, and to see ourselves as anything more than helpless victims of sin and satan. Who are we to go to satan and brings slaves out of darkness? God answer is the same one He gave to Moses: “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12).

The prophet is a picture. We see that often in God’s Word, including the greatest Prophet of all: the Son who was the Sacrificial Lamb. Yes, all the prophets give a powerful message, but they also live a powerful message. Prophets always pay an enormous sacrifice for that message. They reap the hostility that a rebellious world has for the God who loves them.

We are called to be a picture too, as Jesus told His followers. The task will be too great for us, but when God calls us and we say, “Who am I to do this?” – Remember His Irrefutable Answer: “I will be with you.”

Have a successful weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who speak and live with a keen awareness of His presence and His power that is available 24/7. They run into the battle with such confidence and assurance, and so they should.

All For Jesus – Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else.

“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see, to Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:15b-16)
