It’s Friday…What Light Do We Seek?

A new year approaches, but one day the world will be made new. In that day, the glory of God and the lamp of the Lamb (Revelation 21:25) are all the light the world will ever need. When Revelation speaks of the light of the new creation, this is what it’s talking about: The radiance of God in Christ. No sun, stars, or moon will be needed. There will be no dark corners in the new Jerusalem, no shadowy alleyways and secret chambers of disobedience. Need will be extinguished and corruption will not be allowed into the city. Ever.

“The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.”  (Revelation 21:24, 26)

All of the striving for wealth and power and glory that human governments and kings have sought – at great expense to the human race –  will belong to The Savior who humbly forsook the form of deity in this world. While humanity tried to climb its way up, Jesus lowered Himself down. And in the end, the glory and honor of the nations will be His. No crown, no treasure, no prestige, no accomplishment will be boasted in by human pride. All that we sought, He’ll have. And He’ll shine His glory on all who love Him.

That’s reason number one for us not to get caught up in the world’s ambitions. They won’t achieve anything worthwhile, and they won’t last. All the radiance of creation shines from a surprising lamp that faithless eyes cannot see: The Lamb of God who humbled Himself to the point of death. Whatever splendor, glory, or treasure we’ve sought, we won’t find it unless we find it in Him.

As this year comes to a close, let’s measure our goals and plans by asking ourselves: What are our ambitions? Do they fit better with the glory of the world or the glory of The Lamb. In other words, What Light Do We Seek? Let’s make sure every dream we have for this new year comes under the glow of the glory of the Kingdom of God. Now that would be a brilliant move.

Have a glorious weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who seek the light of His presence daily because they know they will dwell in it for all eternity.

All For Jesus – Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else.

“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see, to Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:15b-16)
