While we may be thankful that He “made Himself nothing” (Philippians 2:7) on our behalf, we cannot escape the implications of His example: Our attitude of sacrifice should be exactly the same as His (Philippians 2:5).
Self-sacrifice is not natural to our human nature, isn’t it? We are more inclined toward self-preservation, right? In fundamental ways, the good news that Jesus lived and breathed contradicts our human nature. Human nature is the “fallen” abnormality that we were born with because of sin. But here’s the good news, Jesus’ intention for us is entirely contradictory to our fallenness. He wants us to be like Him; to be conformed to His image, and His exact likeness. Those of us who say we have the love of Christ in us, we now get to pour out our lives for others as He did. If His love is sacrificial, and His love is in us, then we will be sacrificial too.
“You know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14:17)
So, how does sacrifice play out in our daily lives? We cannot be convinced that His love truly dwells within us until we see ourselves behaving like Jesus. Do we love the unlovable as He does? Are we willing to sacrifice ourselves for others as He did? Are we willing to truly sacrifice so that others might know the love of Jesus? That’s How His Love Behaves. It sacrifices.
Have a fruitful weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who know full well what His intentions were when He sent His only Son. They get it. He wants them to be like Jesus, and so do they.
