It’s Friday…Let’s Consider The Long Term

Many ruins and relics testify that earthly empires do not last. Mausoleums and memorials reveal the brevity of life. The inability of governments to solve the world’s problems persuade us that politics is not the answer. Volatile markets and monthly statements show us the futility of wealth.

Still, the tendency of mankind is to invest in earthly things. You do it and so do I. So few people know so little of God’s coming Kingdom that it becomes an afterthought. All week long we plan for life investing in “stuff” – even insuring them all – and perhaps give a few hours in our week to the thought of eternity. We seek human answers to human problems and neglect the divine privilege of dependence on the boundless God.

Both as individuals and societies, we’re so focused on the here and now that we grow blind to the there and then. While all eternity lies before us, our vision only extends a few decades forward. But as in Jesus’ parable of the rich fool (Luke 12:13-21), human plans can be interrupted in one surprising moment, and what we have valued most may no longer matter at all.

“A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15)

Where are we investing our lives? In trying to maintain security and comfort in the next few decades, or in knowing the security and incorruptible glory of eternity?

Millions will one day look back at their incredible lack of logic, remembering the months and years they spent on temporal comforts compared with the scarce attention they gave to everlasting realities. What a tragedy! What a heartbreak! Many will come to the end and will realize they missed the big picture as they see all they labored for come to nothing.

By contrast, what a blessing it is for those who are rich toward God. Let’s Consider The Long Term and examine where our investments lie. Let’s use our resources for God, His Kingdom, and what will endure forever.

Have a profitable weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who live for eternity and make it their priority to see His Kingdom come and His will be done in all of their investments here on earth as it is in Heaven.

All For Jesus – Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else.

“He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see, to Him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” (1 Timothy 6:15b-16)
