“The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So, his father went out and pleaded with him.” (Luke 15:28)
Our God Leaves The Party and pleads. He explains Himself and His ways. He seeks out those who don’t understand Him or who don’t agree with Him.
Throughout history He has been revealing Himself, even coming in the form of a man to demonstrate His nature and to reconcile us to Himself.
The Bible is clear: God has manifested Himsel in the majesty and intricacies of creation; in the moral impulse of all humanity; in His loving and miraculous dealings with His covenant people; in the authority of the revealed Scripture; and clearest of all, in the incarnation of Jesus Christ. No one on the planet has missed out on the pleading of God. Perhaps in one or two of them, but not all.
Those who still find God obscure are like the older brother in the story. They find God obscure because they don’t accept what God has already said. They either don’t want to know Him at all or have learned of Him and don’t like what He has to offer. They expect God to be made in their image. But like the Father in the story, God Left The Party to pursue us.
Sometimes we think that in our relationship with God, we were the pursuers, and He was the recluse. But Jesus, by His existence and His words, indicates the opposite. Like the Father who goes to the older brother and pleads, so does Jesus with people all around us.
That’s the model we should follow. We live in a world filled with people who don’t understand God and refuse to. Still, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit goes and pleads. He sends us to do the same.
Have a fruitful weekend. Make it better by worshiping The LORD with those who understand His love and enjoy telling others about it.
