The good news is, God offers what we need most. Through Jesus, God has comforted so many hearts because it touches humanity’s deepest needs. Our need for companionship, for love, for provision, for purpose and significance – all are part of our inheritance found in Christ alone.
Indeed, no other need seems to bubble up quite so often as our need for security. We worry about failure, injury, loneliness, debts, and death. But we can claim what the apostle Paul claimed:
“The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and bring me safely to His Heavenly Kingdom.” (2 Timothy 4:8)
Perhaps you thought this verse was for the super-spiritual, apostle-like servants in God’s Kingdom. Perhaps you assumed it is only for those who have been beaten or imprisoned for the sake of their faith in God. There are many such servants in our world who have been, are being, and will be persecuted and God’s promise to them is sure.
Yet, this promise is for the rest of us as well. Evil attacks come to all who live for Jesus. That’s a fact. And God promises to deliver everyone who lives for Him.
There is no limit to the fear our minds will entertain. Some of us worry about them more than others. If you are one of the front-line worriers, rehearse this verse often. Memorize it. Say it to yourself daily. When we do, we are not psyching ourselves up, we are training and reminding ourselves to Accept An Absolute Truth.
This Truth can go to the very depths of our soul and instill enormous confidence in our heart, because it is the very Word of God – and Jesus Himself said the Word cannot be broken (John 10:35). Let’s trust it. We are safe in Him.
Have a peace-filled weekend. Make it better by worshiping The Lord with those who have discovered that the most restful place is found in Him alone.
All For Jesus – Nothing More, Nothing Less, Nothing Else.
