It’s Friday…There Is No Other Way

No one likes anyone to reign over them. “No Kings” began in The Garden. But when a crisis hits, that’s what we need most: a King. A crisis needs Someone who will restore order, Someone who will tell us how to get back in sync with the program of Heaven, Someone who will know what went wrong and how to fix it. Every human life needs to know the touch of the only true King.

“You, O God, are my King from of old; You bring salvation upon the earth.” (Psalm 74:12)

There are two profound implications when we call God our King: First, we acknowledge His ability to reign over our circumstances, making Him the object of our hope and celebration; and Second, we acknowledge His right to reign over us, submitting ourselves to His authority and removing ourselves from being in control.

Both responses are necessary in a crisis; God, the King will only inhabit the ruins of a person who knows both His power and His authority.

Yet, an easy trap for us is to ask God to take control of every aspect of our situation except our personal lives. We want Him to control the people who are making us miserable, the circumstances that are causing us stress, and the threats to our well-being. Yes, if we’re honest,  we are much more hesitant to offer Him complete authority over our lives. We want Him to fix things. We don’t want Him to fix us.

God usually doesn’t work that way. In fact, He often allows our crisis specifically to bring us to the point of willingness, where we cry out for Him and are willing to sacrifice anything – even our own self will – for Him to intervene. 

The truth is, He must break our self-direction if He is to direct us. For Him to take control, we must relinquish it. He must be King. There Is No Other Way.

God brings salvation on His terms, not ours. We want to be saved from our situation, but God is much more loving than that. He must save us from ourselves – our plans, our false hopes, our determination to be self-fulfilled which causes us to hang on to our means to accomplish it.

We are often not willing to let go until crisis comes, then we’ll do anything to see God and make Him King. It was grace that brought us to that point; it is grace that will accomplish His best plan (salvation) for us, not ours.

Have a glorious weekend. Make it better by worshiping The Lord with those who know Him as King and who willingly submit to His plan because they’ve learned they always work out for their good.
